Pete Seeger Tribute Thursday, April 30

This Thursday, April 30th, WRPI-FM (91.5 or www.wrpi.org) will broadcast a special "extended" Tribute in honor of Pete Seeger's 90th birthday. It will be a special re-broadcast of a 1994 WRPI program, co-hosted by Jackie Alper and Kevin Roberts honoring Pete's 75th birthday that year. The program will start at approximately 6:54 PM, borrowing some time from the Dead Hours, to allow a complete re-broadcast of the 185 minute program.

Jackie Alper was a long-time WRPI host and a close friend of both Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. In the program, she shares a special tape of reminiscences made by Pete for her, and many of her own memories of Pete. Jackie passed away in 2007, and there are many references to her on the web and in books on Guthrie and other folk legends. See: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1197/is_4_51/ai_n24220088/

The 1994 special was an off-the-cuff broadcast, and marked a return to WRPI for Jackie at Kevin's invitation to help celebrate her friend Pete's birthday.
