New to our folk collection in February 2009

Some of my favorites among the CDs that arrived in the station in February include:

  • Mara's Gem's by Mara Levine: Mara Levine does a good job covering the songs she considers to be gems, such as "If I Were a Carpenter," "Last Thing on My Mind," and "John O'Dreams."
  • Singing through the Hard Times - A Tribute to Utah Phillips: Some great artists cover songs written by or associated with Utah Phillips. Performers include Magpie, Pete Seeger, Si Kahn, John McCutcheon, Emmylou Harris, Mary Black, Gordon Bok, Tom Paxton, and many others.
  • 40 Years: The Complete Singles Collection (1966-2006) by Tommy James and the Shondells: If you like oldies, you'll find much to enjoy here, such as "Hanky Panky," "Mony, Mony," and "Draggin' the Line."
I will be featuring songs from these albums in my show tonight, as well as in future shows. Tune in to WRPI to hear songs from these albums and others.
